ABOUT NORTWEST MILLWORK
After many decades growing the business into a true institution of fine woodworking, John Carlson passed the reins of management and eventually ownership of the business to his children Dave Carlson and Shelley Slater. John instilled the value of doing the job right and it became part of the culture that defines the company today. Dave and Shelley bring a wide range of knowledge and experience that complement each other well.
After receiving a degree from the University of Washington in Building Construction, Shelley Slater became a Project Engineer at Sellen Construction where she worked for 10 years. She joined Northwest Millwork in 1997 and currently serves as the company president. Shelley has developed long-lasting business relationships in the Northwest as well as Hawaii and Alaska. Armed with her experience and education, Shelley is skillfully taking the company into its 8th decade of continuous operation.
Dave Carlson earned his place in the business the old-fashioned way. Beginning his career as an apprentice woodworker at Northwest Millwork in 1974, he worked his way up the ranks, as a journeyman cabinetmaker, to shop foreman, later plant manager and currently, Vice President. Dave’s woodworking skills and organizational ability is second to none. The production process he has developed incorporates the best use of technology and the kind of detail that can only be expressed by the most experienced hands. Northwest Millwork’s success is a direct result of his experience, attention to detail and complete understanding of how to manufacture the best possible product within the rigors of even the most demanding schedules and budgets.
And now, John Carlson’s three grandchildren are driving the future of the company in estimating, engineering and excellent craftsmanship.
We owe our longevity and success to the many years of dedication from our crew — a core of talented craftsmen backed by a team of dedicated estimators, project managers and support staff. Our history of traditional craftsmanship has paved the way to our future, with a dedication to investment in cutting edge technology.
